Emenike's parents escape kidnap attempt in Anambra state

The parents of Nigeria striker Emmanuel Emenike escaped an attempt to abduct them Sunday in Otuocha, eastern Nigeria, the family said.

“Five armed men tried to kidnap our mother this morning (Sunday) from Emma’s house,” said Ebuka Emenike, elder brother of the Super Eagles star

“I was not there when the incident happened. I was called shortly after the incident took place. I was told that my aunt who came out of the house was mistaken for my mother as five men on motorcycles pointed guns at her and told her to cooperate so as not to lose her life.

“They threatened to kill her but she screamed for help which alerted people around to rush out, forcing the men to run away. While she was trying to escape from them, she got injured.”

Ebuka Emenike said a gang of gun men had laid ambush for either their father or mother to step out of the house first for the morning Catholic mass, but unfortunately for them neither of the two came out as the person who first got out of the house was an aunt.

They then mistook her for Emenike's mother and  tried to whisk her away on a motorcycle before she raised alarm .

Only last week, Italy-based midfielder Christian Obodo was abducted and later freed by police around Warri, while the father of Chelsea star Mikel Obi was also held for several days before he was set free by the police.
